A VIVEPORT scene is a VR preview of your content for the VIVEPORT store. This SDK offers two capabilities for VR storefronts in VIVEPORT:
- VR Previews - Rich, interactive VR previews in the VIVEPORT store using your existing art assets. VR previews can be launched as small demos from the VIVEPORT store in VR, allowing users to enter a VR environment and interact with assets you’ve included to get a feel for your content.
- Skyboxes - 360 preview images that offer previews without interaction. A skybox is a background that automatically loads when a title is selected from the VIVEPORT store in VR. Examples might include a sky full of stars for a space-themed title or a skyline for a city-themed app. Even a very simple background can help give a store page a unique atmosphere that catches attention.
Our research tells us that most users prefer immersive previews over screenshots and video for VR titles, and that this informs their purchasing decisions.
System requirements and tips
Although the VIVEPORT Scene SDK supports Unity only, we provide a step-by-step guide that doesn’t need Unity experience to follow. You can develop your title with the tools of your choice while still taking full advantage of Unity-only features.
As with any development work, it’s important to keep a few things in mind:
- Save often. This cannot be emphasized enough.
- Test often. It is strongly recommended to develop on a computer with VIVE VR equipment attached so you can test your content as you develop it. Otherwise, you’ll have to export your submission and move it to a supported device to test.
The VIVEPORT Scene SDK is designed for Unity 2017.4.5f1 with SteamVR installed. A SteamVR-enabled VR headset is required for testing.
